Episode 205: The One With Five Steaks and an Eggplant
Only annotated lines are quoted below, not the entire script
| # | Speaker | Line |
| 1 | Written by | Chris Brown Transcribed by: Mindy Mattingly Phillips With Minor Adjustments by: Eric Aasen |
|---|
| 28 | Ross | Yeah, yeah, everybody's here. Hey, everybody, say hi to Julie in New Mexico. |
|---|
| Observation: I believe the lines above is the only time the great state of New Mexico is specifically mentioned in the entire series (ok, ok, this doesn't really belong here-- I stole one line to mention my home state) |
| |
| 120 | Ross | (using calculator) Plus tip, divided by six. Ok, everyone owes 28 bucks. |
|---|
| 121 | Chandler | Okay. |
|---|
| 122 | Rachel | Um, everyone? |
|---|
| 123 | Ross | Oh, you're right, I'm sorry. |
|---|
| 124 | Joey | Thank you. |
|---|
| 125 | Ross | Monica's big night, she shouldn't pay. |
|---|
| 126 | Monica | Oh, thank you! |
|---|
| 127 | Ross | So five of us is, $33.50 apiece. |
|---|
| Not a nitpick: In the lines above, Ross first calculates the bill as $28 for 6 people, a total of $168. He later divides it for 5 people, which should be $33.60 each, but he says $33.50. This isn't a nitpick though, as Ross was probably rounding to the nearest half dollar in each case. |
| |
| 304 | Monica | Leon, Leon. Shhh! Guys. (They quiet down.) Wait, I don't understand. Those steaks were just a gift from the meat vendor. That was not a kick back. I'll just replace them and we can forget the whole thing. (Listens) What corporate policy? (Listens) No. (Listens) Yeah. (Listens) Okay. (Hangs up) I just got fired. |
|---|
| 305 | Phoebe | Oh. |
|---|
| 306 | (ACTION) | Everyone goes over to comfort Monica |
|---|
| 307 | Waitress | (To Monica) Here's your check. That'll be $4.12. |
|---|
| 308 | Joey | (grabs the check) Let me get that. (To Chandler) You got five bucks? |
|---|
| Observation: In the lines above, it's certainly convenient that only Monica gets her check (didn't anyone else order anything?) and that she gets it right after getting fired (instead of when she leaves, or prior to her phone call). Of course, if this didn't happen, we couldn't have the tender Joey-offers-to-pay moment. |
| Observation: The Friends got free coffee when Rachel worked at Central Perk (Episode 310: The One Where Rachel Quits, line(s) 135-136), except in the lines above, but not when Joey works there (Episode 613: The One With Rachel's Sister, line(s) 2-3). (since Gunther likes Rachel, he probably let her, but not Joey, get away w/ this; the glitch in Episode 205 is either a legitimate nitpick [for a plot point], or Monica ordered more than just coffee). |
| Episode 310, Lines 135-136 |
| 135 | Rachel | Gunther, I quit. |
| 136 | Chandler | (to Joey) Does this mean were gonna have to start paying for coffee? (Joey shrugs his shoulders.) |
|---|
| Episode 613, Lines 2-3 |
| 2 | [SCENE] | Scene: Central Perk, Joey is giving Rachel, Chandler, Phoebe, and Ross their bills. |
| 3 | Joey | Okay Rach, that muffin and espresso, $4.50. Ross, double latte, $2.75. Chandler, coffee and a scone, $4.25. And Pheebs, herbal tea, $1.25. So, all together thats (pauses to figure the total) $12.75. |
|---|
| |
| 313 | (ACTION) | Joey lunges for phone and misses. |
|---|
| Observation: In the lines above, Joey was originally supposed to pickup the phone and say "Bob here", but the creators found the outtake of Matt LeBlanc falling funnier and so used that instead. [This annotation came from another source, and I am in the process of properly crediting it. It is it not something I annotated myself] |
